The week leading up to the holidays, we decided that it was time to take a short break from the keto diet. We knew eating low carb on Christmas wasn’t going to happen and were really craving bread! That could only mean one thing for us… Nashville Hot Chicken sandwiches!
It’s been a while since I’ve had a really good sandwich. We’ve been on a Nashville Hot Sauce kick since we learned to make it at home. It’s sweet, has a great spice, and is so great on fried chicken.
We love ordering Nashville Hot sandwiches when we visit southern style restaurants… so why not try it at home? Recently, we purchased a new deep fryer and this seemed like the perfect recipe to try it out with.
You can replicate this recipe with chicken breast if you prefer white meat, but the dark meat from the boneless chicken thighs was so delicious. It comes out super juicy and compliments the flavor of the Nashville Hot Sauce well.
Let’s get started!

Instructions
-
Begin by heating two inches of vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer.
-
While it is heating, whip egg whites in a large bowl.
-
In a separate bowl, combine flour and panko bread crumbs.
-
Take your chicken thighs, one at a time, and cover in egg mixture.
-
Dredge it in the flour and panko bread crumb mixture.
-
Once the vegetable oil is hot, add the two chicken thighs.
-
Cook on three minutes each side, or until both sides are browned. The thighs should be pretty thin, so they should cook relatively quickly.
-
Once they are done, put them on a draining rack to drain the oil and salt lightly.
-
While they’re draining, begin melting ghee in a small sauce pan on medium-low heat. Add in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
-
Add in the brown sugar and mix well.
-
Add the rest of the spices and stir well.
-
Make sure the sauce is stirred up before coating your chicken in it.
-
Add to a bun with your toppings and enjoy!
